A.W. BROWN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

COUNSELOR

My name is Mechelle Matthews. I am delighted to serve as the school counselor for the Quest Campus at A.W. Brown Leadership Academies.

Born and raised in Tyler, my family and I relocated to the Dallas area approximately ten years ago. I received my bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in College Station and my master’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. I earned my counseling certification through the University of Texas at Arlington. I have served at many levels within the educational spectrum from elementary to higher education.  This will be my 25^th year in education and my eighth year with the A.W. Brown school district.

I believe in a holistic, solution-focused approach to counseling. My passion is equipping students to maximize their potential and present their best selves.  Preparing our scholars for life beyond the present is critical to their future success. As counselor, my goal is to promote the academic, personal and social success of all scholars. I believe that it "takes a village" to accomplish this and I will be working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents and the community to positively impact our children's lives.

It’s going to be a great year and I look forward to working with our scholars and all members of our learning community!
